The trusted partner of independent schools since 1904

ISEB was founded by independent schools for independent schools. For more than 120 years, ISEB has provided trusted assessments and qualifications that support pupils to develop the skills they need for senior school and beyond.

Creating pathways for pupils to develop and succeed

ISEB Common Entrance (CE) at 13+

The only paper-based exams for pupils in year 8. CE 13+ exams are taken as part of senior school admissions processes and as part of the prep school curriculum, and include papers in English, Maths and Science as well as in humanities subjects and modern foreign languages. They provide invaluable preparation for GCSE's and other written exams at senior school and beyond.

The ISEB Project Qualification (iPQ)

The popular ISEB Project Qualification (iPQ) provides a precursor to the EPQ, promoting independent, skills-based learning for pupils in years 5-8.

ISEB Progress in Creative Writing

A new, nationally benchmarked assessment designed to help schools measure progress in creative writing, available for years 5-8.

What are prep schools saying about ISEB?

"To say that we have loved being involved is an understatement. Watching the children being interviewed was yet another moment of confirmation in my mind that the future of education lies in such meaningful, empowering and project-based learning... If schools haven’t explored the iPQ, they really should.” Cottesmore School

“The iPQ allowed our pupils to develop a range of skills, such as independent thinking, researching and referencing, and time management that will undoubtedly serve them well as they move on to their senior schools and face a range of new challenges. The opportunity to explore different ways of presenting allowed pupils of all abilities to access the work in ways that the more traditional type of project would not have allowed." Kenton College

"In the modern world, it is becoming increasingly important to promote independent thinking and creative problem solving, which is why the iPQ is the best preparation pupils can have”. Hall Grove School

"The Common Entrance Examination, sat in Year 8, brilliantly facilitates the development of three skill spheres (learning skills, literacy skills and life skills). It is a programme that empowers our pupils to achieve their potential and perform at their very best. By embedding the ISEB curriculum, and working towards the academic level demanded, we are able to produce pupils who are very well-prepared for the next stage of their education." Shrewsbury House School

"The iPQ prepares pupils beautifully for moving forward to senior school. It allows them to develop their independent research skills and take ownership of their learning."
